OVERVIEW

Every smart device on the bus depends on this.

Onboard Ethernet Switches distribute the vehicle's network connection to multiple onboard devices — CCTV cameras, PIS displays, driver terminals, passenger counters, and more — providing both data and, via Power over Ethernet (PoE), electrical power.

Unlike consumer switches, vehicle-grade ethernet switches must withstand vibration, temperature extremes, voltage fluctuations, and electromagnetic interference — all while maintaining gigabit performance and network resilience for 10+ years.

The choice of ethernet switch impacts every downstream system's reliability. When switches fail, entire ITS ecosystems go dark. When they perform, everything else works.

CAPABILITIES

Core features

What vehicle-grade ethernet switches deliver for onboard networks.

🔀
Multi-port distribution
5, 8, or 16 port options for various fleet configurations.
PoE+ output
Power delivered to cameras and devices through data cables.
🛡️
Ruggedized build
M12 connectors, wide temperature range, vibration resistant.
🌐
Managed features
VLANs, QoS, port mirroring, and remote monitoring.
🔒
Network security
Port-based access control and encrypted management.
📡
Ring redundancy
Ring topology support for high-availability networks.
WHY IT MATTERS

Business impact

✓ System-wide reliability
Quality switches prevent cascading failures across ITS systems.
✓ Installation efficiency
PoE eliminates separate power runs to each device.
✓ Lower TCO
Fewer failures means less maintenance and reduced downtime.
✓ Future-proof capacity
Gigabit speeds handle CCTV and Wi-Fi bandwidth demands.

OUR APPROACH

How UrbanLink helps

Ethernet switches are often specified last and cheapest — a costly mistake. We help you understand which specifications actually matter (EN 50155 certification, PoE budget, redundancy topology) and connect you with proven vendors in this specialized space.

For authorities
Technology advisory, tender preparation, vendor evaluation.
For operators
System selection, integration guidance, deployment coordination.
For vendors
MENA market entry, regional representation, business development.
